This volume contains the fifty-year period 1927-1976 of the history of Craft Freemasonry in the Masonic Province of Derbyshire. The author, W. Bro. The Revd Canon Dr Herbert O'Neill, Past Provincial Grand Chaplain, sadly died in 1972 before he could complete the work. With the help of Julie Foster in the Provincial Office, who retyped the original text from a carbon typescript, and the Provincial Librarian, Colin Clayton, W. Bro. Dr John Wade, PAGDC, has edited the volume and added information for the missing five years.

Dr John Wade was the founding Master of Amadeus Lodge No. 9539, meeting at Dore in the City of Sheffield although in the Masonic Province of Derbyshire. He is also a Past Master of Quatuor Coronati Lodge No. 2076, the premier lodge of Masonic resaearch, meeting at Great Queen Street in London and was the Prestonian Lecturer for 2009. As the Editor of Ars Quatuor Coronatorum (AQC) for the last ten years he is well versed in Masonic research, but intends this 50-year addition to the history of Derbyshire Freemasonry to fill the gap in the history of the Province before he compiles is bicentenary history for publication in 2026.
